Katherine R. Tuttle, MD, FASN

ASN Biography

Katherine R. Tuttle is the Executive Director for Research at Providence Health Care in Spokane, Washington. Dr. Tuttle earned her medical degree and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She was a fellow in Metabolism and Endocrinology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Her nephrology fellowship training was performed at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Tuttle serves the University of Washington School of Medicine as Clinical Professor of Medicine with a dual appointment as Professor of Basic Medical Sciences for the Washington-Wyoming-Alaska-Montana-Idaho Regional Medical School Training Program at Washington State University. She is also appointed as an Investigator at the Kidney Research Institute and at the Institute for Translational Health Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Tuttle is Associate Editor of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and co-chair of the National Kidney Foundation, Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative Workgroup for Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease. She has chaired the Healthcare Professional Workgroup for the National Diabetes Education Program (sponsored by NIH and CDC, 2006-2011) and the Institutional Review Board – Spokane (1999-2012). Dr. Tuttle holds fellowships in the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology. She received the YWCA woman of Achievement Award in Science in 2009 and Outstanding Clinical Faculty Awards at UW School of Medicine in 1992 and 2012. Her major research interests include: diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, renal vascular disease, nutrition in chronic kidney disease, and transitional care in chronic kidney disease.
