Sharon M. Moe

Dr. Moe is Professor of Medicine and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Moe has been actively involved in the Society for a number of years, including service on the Postgraduate Education, Program, and Nominating Committees as well as the Media Relations Task Force.

On a recurring basis, Dr. Moe has also served as Co-Director of the ASN Annual Meeting Professional Development Symposium, a speaker at the ASN Board Review Course and Update, and an Abstract reviewer and Session Coordinator for the Annual Meeting. Dr. Moe has also served on several editorial boards, including the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, the Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, and the American Journal of Nephrology.

Dr. Moe’s research is translational and involves the study of all aspects of chronic kidney disease mineral bone disorder. She has studied the pathogenesis of vascular calcification, including laboratory investigations in vitro, in animal models, and in human studies; evaluated the role of abnormal bone in the pathogenesis of vascular calcification in animal models and humans, and most recently examined the role of nutritional vitamin D deficiency on secondary hyperthyroidism, kidney proteinuria, and immune function. She has also been involved in the design and conduct of clinical trials for multiple drugs to treat hyperphosphatemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism.
