Vitamin D Deficiency in CKD (pre-ESRD): Role of Early Repletion
(Program and Faculty are subject to change)
Thursday, November 06, 2008
12:00 PM to 1:15 PM
Location: Philadelphia Marriott, Salons G/K/L
Patients with moderate to severe CKD have secondary hyperparathyroidism and Vitamin D deficiency. These patients often have advanced vascular disease. In this symposium, we will explore the role that Vitamin D may have on the progression of cardiovascular disease and morbidity.
Session Objectives
Upon completion of this symposium the participant will be able to:
1. describe the potential cellular activities involved in vascular calcification and how Vitamin D may avert the cycle;
2. describe the association of Vitamin D deficiency and cardiovascular outcome in a long-term observational cohort;
3. evaluate the approaches to treating Vitamin D deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism in pre-ESRD patients.
