Session Description

This session discusses racial disparities in CKD and the potential for the Precision Medicine Initiative to narrow the divide between these two entities. In particular, the session addresses the use of systems biology to inform advances in precision medicine and environmental and genetic factors that impact racial disparities observed in CKD.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the use of systems biology to inform the precision medicine initiative; 2. describe the racial disparities that exist in CKD and the goals of the Precision Medicine Initiative; 3. discuss the genetic polymorphisms that contribute to renal fibrosis in African Americans; and 4. discuss specific environmental factors that alter high-risk CKD populations.
