Organ-ization through Arborization: Regulation of Ureteric Bud Branching Morphogenesis

November 17, 2016 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: W176

Session Description

Ureteric bud (UB) branching morphogenesis is critical in determining the final architecture of the kidney and nephron number. Defective UB morphogenesis leads to kidney malformations such as renal agenesis and dysplasia. This session provides an update on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying this morphogenic process.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the process of UB branching morphogenesis; 2. recognize signaling pathways in UB branching morphogenesis; and 3. explain the role of progenitor cells in ureteric branching.

Session Acknowledgements

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, ASN thanks former ASN Councilor Roscoe R. Robinson, MD.
