Clinical Practice Session

Paradigm Shifts in Diabetic Kidney Disease

November 17, 2016 | 04:30 PM - 06:30 PM

Location: W375B

Session Description

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains the leading cause of CKD in the developed and developing regions of the world. Although progress has been made in reducing incidence rates, largely through better diabetes care, the total number with DKD is growing because more people are living with diabetes. As this epidemic evolves, more comprehensive clinical data reveal dramatic changes in understanding of the most common form of CKD. This session elucidates new insights into major paradigm shifts in the clinical diagnosis, risks, and global health impact of DKD.

Honorary Moderator: Sharon Anderson, MD, FASN

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. explain emerging clinical features and risks of DKD; and 2. recognize public health implications of DKD in a region highly impacted by the diabetes pandemic.
