Online Curriculum for Nephrology Fellows on Aging and the Kidney

In April of 2008, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) was awarded a grant by the Association of Specialty Professors (ASP) to create an online curriculum to address geriatrics-related issues in all aspects of nephrology (such as chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and Glomerular diseases), expand training to include issues related to aging populations (such as end of life care), and incorporate the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education's core competencies. A task force, co-chaired by Dr. Dimitrios G. Oreopoulos, and Dr Jocelyn Wiggins has been formed to help create this curriculum. At this time, ASN has made available the presentations (with audio) from the 2-day course "Geriatric Nephrology: An Epidemiologic and Clinical Challenge" that was offered at Renal Week 2008. This curriculum will be expanding over time, and we hope that you find it useful. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Susan Owens at sowens@asn-online.org.

Both the curriculum and the 2-day course are funded through the ASP project, "Integrating Geriatrics into the Specialties of Internal Medicine: Moving Forward from Awareness to Action." The course was created in conjunction with the International Society of Geriatric Nephrology and Urology (ISGNU).
