Pacific Vascular Institute for Continuing Medical Education Abdominal Vascular Course

Dates: March 15 - 16, 2008; October 17 - 18, 2008

Location: Bothell, WA

Details: http://www.pvicme.com

This two-day course is designed for physicians and technologists seeking intensive training in duplex scanning of the abdominal vasculature. Course includes lectures, demonstrations, and ample hands-on instruction.

Participants are instructed on abdominal vascular testing procedures to include: detection and quantification of lesions in the renal and mesenteric arteries, assessment for abdominal aortic aneurysm and dissections, evaluation of end organs including the kidneys, liver and spleen, and evaluation of patients with portal hypertension and porto-systemic shunts.

Interpretive skills are developed through case study presentations in all areas of abdominal vascular testing using the most advanced and accepted methods. Patient models with interesting abdominal vascular findings are used during each hands-on session whenever possible, with emphasis on the most successful scanning views for visualizing the abdominal vasculature.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of vascular ultrasound anatomy in the abdomen.

Obtain Doppler blood flow signals in most abdominal vascular structures including end organs and following interventions such as renal stenting.

Understand the clinical applications of duplex scanning of the abdominal arteries and veins including appropriate reasons for referral, pertinent interview questions and physical assessment.

Interpret abdominal vascular duplex scans based on analysis of real-time imaging and pulsed Doppler spectral waveforms.
