Abstracts
The American Society of Nephrology now publishes meeting abstracts in online form
only. ASN will no longer provide a hard-copy version of the Journal of the American
Society of Nephrology (JASN) abstracts supplement. This change is consistent with
professional societies similar to ASN. Society members and leaders have expressed
growing concern about printing the abstract book. In addition, ASN recognizes that
continuing to add features and capabilities to the abstracts online—which includes an
itinerary builder, extensive keyword search, and PDA download option—is the best
investment the Society can make on behalf of both members and Renal Week
participants.
Abstracts2View Site
All abstracts and the complete program are viewable online through the
Abstracts2View site at http://www.abstracts2view.com/asn/.
Program and Abstracts-on-Disk
All abstracts that are submitted to Renal Week 2009 are recorded on compact disk
(CD). The CD format offers a concise and efficient way to view and archive the 2009
abstracts and program. Meeting participants can easily search by abstract category,
author, topic, and session to locate the material of choice. Participants receive a
voucher in their meeting bag for a complimentary CD. Take this voucher to
Genzyme’s exposition booth, number 1015 to claim a CD, while supplies last.
Support for this content is provided by an educational grant from Genzyme.

Please stop by ASN Services located in the Scientific Exposition in the San Diego
Convention Center. ASN Services include Membership, Career Center, Continuing

Learning Pathways
Please refer to the list of learning pathways below to locate sessions in area of
expertise.
Meetings-Within-a-Meeting
Renal Week 2009 will include four featured topics: Epithelial Transport and Cell
Biology (ASN thanks the American Physiological Society Renal Section for its endorsement of
this program), Kidney Development and Stem Cells (ASN thanks the American Society of
Pediatric Nephrology for its endorsement of this program), New Insights into Glomerular
Structure and Function (ASN thanks the Renal Pathology Society for its endorsement of this
program), and Renal Immunology and Transplantation (ASN thanks the American
Society of Transplantation for its endorsement of this program). In addition to being
highlighted within a plenary lecture, each featured topic will be the focus of a
Meeting-Within-a-Meeting (MWM) and will consist of clinical and basic science
symposia as well as free communication presentations. Each MWM will take place in
the same physical location throughout the meeting to encourage a sense of community
and promote scientific interchange within each topic, with the exception of the poster
presentations that will be on display in the Scientific Exposition, Halls A/B/C.
Hypertension, Dialysis, and Clinical Nephrology (HDCN) Subscription
ASN offers participants the ability to subscribe to HDCN for a special Renal Week rate
of $70 (ASN members) or $85 (non-members). HDCN provides up-to-date, selected
information on renal disorders and their treatment (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis),
and about hypertension, dialysis, and clinical nephrology topics. HDCN is a place for
physicians and nurses who treat patients with kidney or renal disease. Here physicians
and nurses can find answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) about hypertension,
dialysis, and nephrology, pointers to recent review articles, and summaries of hot new
hypertension, dialysis, and nephrology papers, abstracts, and meeting presentations .
Also, information about medical products, devices, services, and drugs pertaining to
hypertension, dialysis, and clinical nephrology are provided, as is a list of links to
relevant hypertension/dialysis/transplantation organizations, medical provider
networks, and databases. Much of the information presented is collected from a
distinguished editorial board composed of specialists in the field of kidney or renal
disease. At the conclusion of Renal Week please visit HDCN.com to obtain a login and
password and sign up for your subscription. Please note the rate for a subscription will
increase after Renal Week.
