William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Program
Purpose
The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Program will improve the training experience for nephrology fellows in Central and South America as well as Spanish-speaking countries in North America. A former ASN President and recipient of the distinguished John P. Peters Award, Dr. Mitch is committed to helping develop meaningful programs for the next generation of nephrologists, to improving the educational continuum for nephrologists in Latin America, and to making ASN’s initiatives more accessible throughout the Americas.
Benefits for Recipients
Starting in 2012, the ASN William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Program:
- Provides free ASN membership to every nephrology fellow in Latin America. ASN will provide free membership to each nephrology fellow for a total of three years.
- Provides free registration to the ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week and $800 USD to assist with travel expenses to five Mitch International Scholars.
- Provides free registration to the ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week and $800 USD to assist with travel expenses to three nephrology fellows (who are underrepresented minorities) from US and Canadian training programs.
- Invites the five Mitch International Scholars and the three nephrology fellows who receive travel support and free registration to the ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week to attend the ASN Presidents Reception.
Eligibility
The ASN William E. Mitch, III, MD, FASN, International Scholars Program is available to nephrology fellows in Central and South America as well as selected countries in North America.
The three additional nephrology fellows must be underrepresented minorities as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and from US or Canadian training programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
