ASN Seeks a Director of Business Development

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN)—which represents 11,000 clinicians, researchers, and educators dedicated to the fight against kidney disease—seeks a Director of Business Development.

Reporting directly to the ASN Executive Director, the Director of Business Development will generate external support for ASN activities, particularly in the educational arena. To accomplish this goal, the Director of Business Development will serve as ASN’s primary contact to the biotechnology, medical device, and pharmaceutical industry. In addition to maintaining these relationships, the director is responsible for understanding the industry, which includes analyzing current activities, anticipating trends, and developing strategies for how ASN should respond.

Additionally, the Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing new sources of support for the Society’s initiatives. The Director is expected to develop ASN’s relationships with other funding sources (such as foundations) and pursue creative opportunities for generating revenue. Although the Director does not need to reside in the Washington, DC, area, he/she will serve as one of the senior members of the ASN staff.

Besides having significant experience and documented success in development, fundraising, and marketing, the ideal candidate for ASN Director of Business Development will understand the medical profession, the expectations of physicians, and the rules (particularly from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) governing commercial support. The ideal candidate will have excellent financial skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, a talent for supervising and mentoring coworkers, superb aptitude in Microsoft Office, exceptional writing ability and oral communication skills, an eye for detail, and a knack for learning tasks quickly.

Interested applicants should email cover letter and resume to ASN at operations@asn-online.org. Please note that the Society can only accept online applications for this position.
