President's Message

Dear ASN Members,

Welcome to the July issue of Renal Express!

This summer is proceeding rapidly but while you're vacationing, don't forget to register for ASN's 9th Annual Board Review Course (BRC) & Update. The Board Review Course will be held from August 28- September 3, and we are returning to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. To register, please click here, where additional information is available.

It's also time to start planning for Renal Week™ 2004, from October 27-November 1. This year, we will celebrate the anniversary of Lewis & Clark's exploration of the great west by holding the meeting in St. Louis, Missouri. Registration and housing are now open, and you can register and reserve your housing through the ASN™ website.

New this year, you may order an advance copy of ASN's Abstract Book for Renal Week™. The cost is $50 plus shipping and handling. To pre-order the book, please complete the order form and fax it to 202-659-0709. Incomplete forms will not be processed. The deadline for orders is Wednesday, September 15. The book will be shipped out on Wednesday, October 6. As with last year's meeting, you will still receive a free copy of the Abstract Book onsite in St. Louis, whether or not you pre-order the book.

Finally, I'm pleased to announce we've received more than 1,000 applications from ASN™ members interested in obtaining our new designation of Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN). FASN was recently established to honor members of the Society who are leaders in basic and clinical research, clinical nephrology, or renal pathology.  Certificates will be mailed to all submitted applicants who have met the requirements by early September, and these individuals will be recognized at Renal Week™. Click here to apply and learn more about FASN.

Please feel free to email me your ideas on how we can better serve the needs of ASN members.

Sincerely yours,

William E. Mitch, MD
President
American Society of Nephrology
