Dear ASN Members,
I cordially invite you to participate in the American Society of Nephrology’s 40th Annual Meeting and Scientific Exposition, taking place in San Francisco, California from October 31-November 5th. Our theme for the meeting is "The Kidney and Its Diseases: Understanding Mechanisms, Discovering Treatments."
This year’s program has been skillfully assembled by a creative team of clinicians and scientists under the able leadership of the 2007 ASN Program Committee Chairman, John Sedor, MD. Be sure to view the slate of Renal Week meeting highlights compiled by Dr. Sedor, available by clicking here: http://asn-online.org/education_and_meetings/Renal%20Week/sedor_recommends.aspx.
The ASN’s annual meetings have a legacy of excellence and a tradition of bringing all of those individuals with an interest in kidney physiology and nephrology together for stimulating discussions and discovery. This year’s meeting promises to continue to expand on this rich tradition. Please accept, on behalf of the ASN Program Committee, PGE Committee, and the Society’s leadership, our invitation to attend what promises to be the most enriching and rewarding ASN meeting yet!
Sincerely yours,

William Henrich, MD, FASN

5. ASN Publications Hold Top Spots in Urology & Nephrology Websites Study
PERQ/HCI, a pharmaceutical and healthcare promotion and research company, has just released the rankings of urology and nephrology publication websites based on page views and website recognition. PERQ/HCI conducted a study on publication website views/visits by physicians, in addition to other variables. According to Fran Magdziak and Alejandro Alvarez of PERQ/HCI, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology took first place, ASN’s Nephrology Self-Assessment Program ranked second, and ASN’s newest addition, the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology ranked sixth.

6. Contract for Japanese Edition of CJASN Extended Through 2010
The Japanese edition of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) contains a very small selection of papers from the English edition of CJASN. Three Japanese editions are published each year, compared to the six issues of CJASN published by ASN each year. Each Japanese edition of CJASN contains approximately 24 pages, totaling 70-80 pages per year, compared to CJASN’s 1,300 pages per year. These Japanese translations are distributed to 4,500 nephrologists in Japan by Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. The editors of the Japanese edition of CJASN are ASN members Masafumi Fukagawa, MD, PhD, FASN, from the Division of Nephrology and Kidney Center, Kobe University School of Medicine; Tadao Akizawa, MD, from the Department of Internal Medicine, Showa University; and Takashi Igarashi, MD, PhD from the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo.
In addition, a Japanese edition of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN) is also published two to three times per year. The editor of the Japanese edition of JASN is Fumitake Gejyo, MD from the Department of Medicine, Nigara University Medical and Dental Hospital.
If you are a nephrologist residing in Japan and would like to be added to the distribution list for Japanese edition of either CJASN or JASN, please contact Corey Eberhart at Corey.Eberhart@wolterskluwer.com.
