Fellow Research Opportunities
National Institutes of Health
F32 Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships
F32 awards are given to individual fellows for research training. Individuals may receive up to 3 years of funding. Funding largely supports salary at the NIH-approved PGY level, along with some tuition, fee insurance and other support. Fellows must be U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals of the U.S., or possess a Permanent Resident Card. Further information is available here.
T32 Institutional Research Training Grants
T32 training grants are awarded to Renal Divisions (as well as other programs) to help support fellow research training. The awards are typically for 2 years per fellow, wherein the fellow must complete both years. If only one year is completed, the fellow must pay back the full support provided during the first year. The Renal Division decides which fellows will receive T32 support after discussion with the fellows. Funding largely supports salary at the NIH-approved PGY level, along with some tuition, fee insurance and other support. Fellows must be U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals of the U.S., or possess a Permanent Resident Card. Further information is available here.

Industry Support
A number of pharmaceutical companies offer fellowship grants. However, given the increasing scrutiny of the academic-industry relationship with regard to conflict of interest, the nature of this funding may change. Information on the currently available programs, all of which are independent of ASN, may be found at the following websites. This information is provided as a service to the fellows; it does not constitute endorsement by ASN.

Institutional Loan Repayment Programs
Many institutions have loan repayment programs, which provide medical school debt relief to junior faculty in exchange for agreement to be an academic faculty member at the institution for a certain period of time. Check with your Department of Medicine office to see if such a program is available.
