Beverly J. Mathis, DO

November 8, 1950 - September 2, 2017

Dr. Beverly J Mathis (Baker) D.O. of Tulsa slipped peacefully away surrounded by her family September 2nd, 2017. Born on November 8th, 1950 in Tulsa at the Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital, Beverly grew up in Tulsa with her family. She graduated from Edison High School, Class of 1968 and then met Frank Mathis while the both of them worked together at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital 1969. She attended Drury College and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Health in 1973. She married Frank Mathis in December of 1972 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Tulsa.

Beverly went on to attend Oklahoma State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. She graduated in 1981 and went on to specialize in her cherished field of Nephrology. She practiced medicine until July of 2017 when she retired. She gave service to the Tulsa Health Department as both a board member and Chairman of the Board 1995-2015. She was also the first female Chief of Staff in North Eastern Oklahoma when she took the reins in 1994-1995 at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Dr. Mathis had a passion unlike most in her field of choice. She truly loved medicine and teaching. As these two combined she threaded a foundation of teachable moments between her own family and her medical family. Following in the footsteps of her late grandfather Dr. C.D. "Pop" Heasley D.O., the first licensed Osteopathic Physician in Oklahoma, Dr. Mathis bravely advocated for her patients and the people whom she worked with for many years.

She had two children, Molly and Andrew whom she loved dearly. She has a granddaughter, Ruby, whom she cherished every moment with while either reading, dressing up as princesses, or watching movies together. She and Frank both loved gardening, being with family, and her animals. She enjoyed her morning routines of reading medical journals, coffee and solitaire.

She is survived by her husband Frank Mathis, son Andrew Mathis, daughter Molly & wife Lisa Merrell, and granddaughter Ruby Merrell.
