Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) Marketing and Communications Specialist

Position Overview

Reporting to the KHI Manager, the Marketing and Communications Specialist (Specialist) provides full-time marketing and communication expertise for the Kidney Health Initiative, through effective written and oral communications brand management, and messaging. The focus of this position is to take ownership of the development and implementation of all KHI communications and printed materials. Ideal candidates will think critically about best practices and messaging to all stakeholders of KHI. The Specialist will act as a liaison between the Kidney Health Initiative team and the ASN marketing and communication staff working in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide marketing and communication expertise to major activities including:

  • Update and maintain the KHI website,
  • Create the KHI Annual Report along with ASN graphic designer,
  • Write and update weekly emails to KHI stakeholders regarding project submission deadlines, KHI activities, current projects, and related external activities, and
  • Work with KHI workgroups regarding their publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Other activities include:

  • Create and maintain KHI materials such as Project Fact Sheets, and KHI PowerPoint slide decks.
  • Utilize current ASN social media platforms to disseminate KHI activities
  • Assume other duties assigned by the Project Director and Manager, as necessary and appropriate, to carry out the marketing and communication strategy for the Kidney Health Initiative
  • Develop an assessment plan to help define KHI's reach and effectiveness
  • Develop targeted communications and materials for KHI members by stakeholder type
  • Support the development of a strategy to engage stakeholders, including ASN members through ASN Communities (a series of online discussion boards for ASN)
  • Work collaboratively to consider and develop new vehicles, such as a KHI blog, to share information quickly and effectively
  • Create a tagline for the Initiative in collaborate with ASN Marketing staff
  • Act as liaison to the KHI Publication Committee
  • Participate in routine staff meetings, project committee meetings as requested, and process review activities as assigned
  • Liaison to ASN Communications and Marketing team to produce time sensitive documents for KHI regarding news worthy items.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in related field is required. Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
  • Proven success with marketing and communications strategy
  • Strong verbal communication skills; writes clearly and concisely using correct grammar and spelling.
  • Experience with web analytics to improve marketing and communications activities
  • Excellent written and oral communications skillsv
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of marketing and communication skills, health knowledge a plus
  • Strong analytical and attention to detail skills required
  • Proficiency in HTML and other web-based languages, as well as Microsoft Office required, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and project management tools.
  • Experience understanding and working with government agencies is a plus.v
  • High energy, positive attitude, able to work collaboratively and take initiative.
  • Seeks and provides accurate and timely information to supervisor, colleagues, and others.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in prioritizing and accomplishing work in an efficient manner, even in the face of limited resources or conflicting and/or changing priorities.
