Kidney Week 2016: Travel Information

Discounted Air Travel

ASN has secured special discounts for Kidney Week Participants to book their travel with United Airlines to Chicago, IL (ORD) between November 12-23, 2016. Getting Around in Chicago

Two major airports service the Chicago, IL area; O'Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport. O'Hare International Airport is approximately 28 miles from McCormick Place. Chicago Midway International Airport is approximately 10 miles from McCormick Place. Please see below for information regarding transportation to McCormick Place and downtown hotels from each airport.

Shuttle

ASN has arranged a shuttle between the official ASN hotels and McCormick Place. Download the shuttle schedule here.

O'Hare

Shuttles pick up outside the Baggage Claim area in the innermost lane of the lower level roadways of the Domestic and International Terminals. Go Airport Express offers daily, door-to-door service to/from O'Hare and most city and suburban neighborhoods. They begin operations during the early morning hours and depart approximately every 10 to 15 minutes from each terminal. Advanced notice is strongly suggested. Midway

Shuttles pick up at lower level Arrivals door #3. The pickup location is located outside door #3 on the inside lane. Go Airport Express offers door-to-door service to and from Midway and most city and suburban neighborhoods from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Departures are about every 15 minutes. Please call Go Airport Express directly at the numbers below for specific departure information. Lift-equipped vehicles are available on request for passengers with disabilities. Advanced notice is strongly suggested. The fare to the city from Midway is approximately $27. ASN has arranged a 15% discount for all Kidney Week attendees. Taxi

O'Hare

There are Taxi Stands at the lower-level curb front (outside of Baggage Claim) at each terminal. Please make sure to use the designated Taxi Stands to ensure you have a licensed driver. For your protection, do not accept rides from drivers outside the cab stand or on the departure level (second level) of the terminal roadways. All taxis should have a working meter to calculate the fare based on time and mileage. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare from O'Hare to downtown Chicago is $35-50. Shared ride service is available to those who wish to share a ride and pay a flat rate to certain destinations if multiple parties are available for the trip. Shared ride fares from O'Hare to McCormick Place is $24 per person.

Midway

Taxi stands are located on the lower level curb front of the terminals, and taxis are available on a first come, first served basis. To ensure you have a licensed taxi driver, please be sure to use the taxi stands. For your protection, do not accept rides from drivers outside the cab stand or in the departure area of the terminal roadways. All taxis should have a working meter to calculate the fare based on time and mileage. Fares are based on traffic conditions, but an average fare from Midway to downtown Chicago is $30-40. The L

O'Hare

The O'Hare Blue Line station is located in the lower level of Terminal 2. The Blue Line offers 24 hour service with more frequent service during weekday morning and evening rush hours. You can also connect to most other CTA lines through the Blue Line. With regularly scheduled arriving and departing trains, you will experience minimal wait times.

Once you've boarded the Blue Line in the direction of Forest Park, you will take the train 15 stops and exit at the Clark/Lake stop. Transfer to the Green Line in the direction of Ashland / Cottage Grove. Take the train 5 stops and exit at the Cermak-McCormick Place stop. After exiting the station walk east on E Cermak Road toward Wabash Ave for .4 miles. Make a slight right onto S King Drive walk for .1 miles. Turn left onto McCormick Drive and arrive at McCormick Place.

Midway

The Midway Orange Line station is located just east of the airport terminal building at the Midway Transportation Center and is connected to the airport via an enclosed walkway. Follow the signs in the airport that read "CTA Trains" or "Trains to City." An orange line painted on the ground will guide you to the station. The Orange Line train service operates from approximately 4-4:30 a.m. to approximately 1:00 a.m. every day with more frequent service during weekday morning and evening rush hours. The Orange Line connects to most other CTA train lines.

Once you've boarded the Orange Line in the direction of Downtown, you will take the train 12 stops and exit at the Adams/Wabash stop. Transfer to the Green Line in the direction of Ashland / Cottage Grove. Take the train 2 stops and exit at the Cermak-McCormick Place stop. After exiting the station walk east on E Cermak Road toward Wabash Ave for .4 miles. Make a slight right onto S King Drive and walk for .1 miles. Turn left onto McCormick Drive and arrive at McCormick Place.

Uber & Lyft

Uber and Lyft are transportation services that operate similar to Taxicabs. In order to use these services you must have downloaded the phone app and set-up an account before requesting the service.

There is a surcharge added to your fare for airport pickups, this surcharge varies based on day and time. For more specific pricing please download the appropriate app and use the "Estimate Fare" feature.

Domestic Travel (Terminals 1, 2, and 3):

  • UberX pickups occur upstairs on the Departures level
  • For the 3 terminals, there are 2 pickup locations:
    • Terminal 1: Pickup A
    • Terminal 2: Pickup A or B
    • Terminal 3: Pickup B
  • UberBLACK and UberTaxi pickups will continue to occur downstairs on the Arrivals level

International Travel (Terminal 5):

  • All international pickups occur downstairs on the Arrivals level

Lyft
