Interventions in Ciliopathies: The Long and Short of It

November 19, 2016 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: W178

Session Description

Defects in cilia function contribute to a wide range of disorders that affect nearly every organ system. Most prominent among the ciliopathies in PKD. This session explores potential therapeutic approaches for PKD, as well as other ciliopathy-related disorders.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the use of heat shock protein 90 inhibitors to retard cyst progression; 2. explain the potential importance of phosphodiesterase in renal cyst progression; and 3. identify important gene replacement strategies to retard disease progression in two ciliopathies.

Session Acknowledgements

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, ASN thanks former ASN Councilor Jared J. Grantham, MD.
