Congressional Briefing on Innovation in Kidney Disease | May 1, 2014

ASN and several other organizations co-hosted a congressional briefing on kidney research and innovation in conjunction with Kidney Community Advocacy Day 2014. Congressional Kidney Caucus co-chairs Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA) and Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) served as honorary co-hosts, and both attended to address the audience and describe their personal interests in kidney issues.

World Kidney Day 2014 | March 13, 2014

World Kidney Day 2014 focuses on chronic kidney disease and aging. The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) has provided responses to four key questions on this topic.

Kidney Research Advocacy Day 2013 | June 19-20, 2013

On June 19, 2013, ASN President Bruce A. Molitoris, MD, FASN, President-Elect Sharon M. Moe, MD, FASN, and Research Advocacy Committee members went to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to promote more kidney-related research and cross-institute collaboration. ASN Councilor Raymond C. Harris, MD, FASN, also joined the Research Advocacy Committee for a meeting on June 20, 2013, with leaders in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Research and Development to discuss possible opportunities for collaboration.


Kidney Health Advocacy Day 2013 | April 25, 2013

On April 25, 2013, advocates from ASN, the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), and Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC) gathered in Washington, DC, for Kidney Health Advocacy Day. Advocates met with nearly 60 congressional offices to promote the HIV Organ Transplant Equity (HOPE) Act, lifetime immunosuppressive drug coverage for transplant recipients, sustained medical research funding, and the nascent Kidney Health Initiative (KHI).


113th Congressional Kidney Caucus Kick-Off | March 20, 2013

ASN, ASPN, and seven other kidney patient and health professional organizations hosted a reception on Capitol Hill to launch the activities of the Congressional Kidney Caucus in the 113th Congress. Caucus co-chairs Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA) and Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) attended the event and discussed priorities for the caucus in this congress.


NIH Advocacy Day | June 20, 2012

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, ASN President-Elect Bruce A. Molitoris, MD, FASN and ASN Research Advocacy Committee (RAC) members participated in the society's first-ever "NIH Advocacy Day" to advance the profile of kidney disease research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) beyond NIDDK and encourage other institutes to dedicate resources to studying kidney disease where relevant to their mission.


ASN Hill Day 2012 | April 26, 2012

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, ASN leaders met with more than 50 Congressional offices, including more than a half-dozen meetings with Senators and Representatives themselves. The second annual ASN Hill Day provided ASN leaders an opportunity to directly meet with lawmakers and House and Senate staff about issues of importance to ASN and the kidney care community.
