Session Description

The interest in live kidney donation is long standing and important. Focusing on the rare event of ESRD ignores detection of early precursors of CKD. In addition, psychosocial and financial issues are not trivial, as many donors reporting negative social outcomes and are burdened with financial burdens. This session addresses these topics.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. provide new quantitative information regarding altruism in kidney donors; 2. discuss psychosocial and financial consequences of live donation; 3. provide tools that predict future renal outcomes of donors; 4. describe the consequences of postdonation diabetes and hypertension; and 5. highlight the unmet areas in kidney donor research.
