Basic/Clinical Science Session

A Tale of Vessels, Hearts, and Kidneys

November 18, 2016 | 04:30 PM - 06:30 PM

Location: W192

Session Description

This session describes recent advances in bioengineering and technology that could change the way we take care of patients with kidney diseases. Topics include the use of bioengineered vessels and the ability to harness flow and shear profiles to treat vascular disease and vascular access dysfunction in CKD/ESRD patients. This session also includes presentations on targeting sudden cardiac death with 24/7 monitoring abilities and the latest updates on our progress towards a bioengineered kidney.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe recent advances in bioengineering as it relates to the treatment of kidney diseases and their complications; 2. identify ways to harness the linkages between flow and stenosis to treat vascular disease and vascular access dysfunction in CKD/ESRD patients; 3. describe recent advances in bioengineered kidneys; and 4. examine new approaches to the epidemic of sudden cardiac death in hemodialysis patients.
