Clinical Research in Nephrology: The Next Frontier

November 19, 2016 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: W183A

Session Description

The nephrology field has trailed behind most other medical specialties in the conduct of clinical trials. As a result, therapeutic development has stalled for many kidney diseases in recent history. However, advances in clinical trial design, electronic health systems, and therapeutic innovations are at-the-ready to renovate this scenario. This session covers progress in clinical trial designs with a focus on the concepts underlying pragmatic and adaptive approaches, as well as new clinical and research opportunities using precision medicine and health information technology.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. explain concepts of pragmatic and adaptive clinical trial designs; and 2. discuss the value of progressive approaches for clinical trial design to expand therapeutic development.

Learning Pathways

  • Novel Translational Approaches
  • Chronic Kidney Disease

Moderators

  • Jamie P. Dwyer, MD
