Basic/Clinical Science Session

Mechanisms of AKI to CKD Continuum, Including the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship

November 18, 2016 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: W192

Session Description

Epidemiological studies revealed that AKI is not a transient disease as it had been thought to be. Most AKI patients eventually develop CKD and ESKD. Recent studies revealed mechanisms of the AKI to CKD continuum, and when we develop therapies targeting the continuum, we are able to reduce the number of CKD and ESKD patients dramatically. This session addresses these topics.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the mechanism of AKI to CKD transition; 2. develop novel therapeutic approaches against AKI; and 3. plan management of AKI patients.

Session Acknowledgements

ASN gratefully acknowledges Monarch Pharmaceuticals for support of the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, ASN thanks former ASN Councilor Barry M. Brenner, MD.
