Clinical Practice Session

Home Hemodialysis: Alpha to Omega

November 18, 2016 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: W375B

Session Description

Given the changes in dialysis reimbursement and the growing evidence of the benefits of home hemodialysis (HHD), the frequency of HHD as a modality of choice for ESRD patients has increased substantially in recent years. Yet, proper training and understanding the peculiarities of this procedure have lagged. This session reviews common principles in HHD, currently available machines, home settings, and prescriptions. Also, to address patient selection, vascular access and acute complications are discussed. Finally, outcome studies are discussed.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. review requirements for a successful HHD program; 2. describe the prescription and kinetics in HHD; 3. list possible complications of HHD; and 4. analyze recent published data on long-term outcome of HHD.

Session Acknowledgements
