Fertility in CKD

Session Description

During the progression from CKD to ESRD and through to transplantation, fertility changes. What is known about the causes and effects of CKD and women's fertility? Pregnancy can affect kidney diseases as well and have a profound impact on maternal and fetal health. The management of pregnant patients with kidney diseases both before and after transplant is challenging. Recent therapeutic advances may expand the clinician's armamentarium to enhance health among pregnant women with kidney diseases. This session addresses these topics.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the impact of CKD and ESRD on human fertility; 2. explain modern maternal and fetal outcomes among pregnant women with kidney diseases; 3. recommend the best medications to use to treat hypertension during pregnancy; and 4. discuss the impact of immunosuppressants on maternal and fetal health.
