Basic/Clinical Science Session

Genetics of Kidney Transplantation

November 17, 2016 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: S106

Session Description

This session reviews the impact of genetic variability on transplantation outcomes and how genetic background may guide donor and recipient selection. It details the current understanding of pharmacogenomic testing and potential tailoring of immunosuppressive exposure. It reviews the current data of genomic predictors of transplantation outcomes, including the APOL1 contribution to outcome disparities.

Session Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the participant will be able to: 1. describe the role of pharmacogenomics in transplantation outcomes and individualization of immunosuppression; 2. describe genomic predictors of transplantation outcomes; 3. examine the APOL1 contribution disparities in transplantation outcomes; 4. outline donor genotyping needs; 5. discuss the role of demographics in transplantation access and outcome; and 6. examine gene expression associations with rejection and fibrosis.
