Kidney Week

Kidney Transplantation

In cooperation with the American Society of Transplantation.

Course Description

This program focuses on controversies and advances in the evaluation and management of transplant patients as well as appropriate donor selection, including paired kidney donation and other novel strategies to maximize rates of organ utilization and kidney transplantation. A case-based format provides ample time for discussion of controversial management considerations. Highlighted topics include optimal immunosuppression strategies that incorporate an individualized approach to consider biomarkers and patient subtypes (women, minorities, and multi-organ candidates) and management of complications such as acute and chronic rejection (both T cell- and antibody-mediated), recurrent disease, and opportunistic infections. Immunology, tissue typing, and cellular therapies are also reviewed in this highly interactive program.

ASN designates this live activity for a maximum of 17.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Pharmacists: This live educational offering has been approved for 17.0 contact hours.

This program includes an electronic syllabus (not a printed syllabus).

Course Objective(s)

Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to: 1) describe the evaluation and management of transplant candidates and potential living donors; 2) discuss current immunosuppression approaches and their consequences; and 3) formulate management guidelines for common complications after transplant, including graft dysfunction.
