Diabetic Kidney Disease: Translating Pathogenic Mechanisms into Therapies

Support is provided by an educational grant from Janssen Biotech, Inc., administered by Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC.

Course Description

Knowledge about the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is rapidly growing. In this program, a panel of international experts in this expanding field discusses the most recent mechanisms underlying kidney dysfunction and damage in diabetes, including genetics and epigenetics, metabolic alterations, and immune system activation. Participants also learn about the epidemiology and pathology of DKD and receive updates regarding current treatments for DKD. Special emphasis is given to the description of new therapies to prevent the onset and progression of DKD.

ASN designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program includes an electronic syllabus (not a printed syllabus).

Course Objective(s)

Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to: 1) describe the new mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of diabetes; 2) discuss the preclinical models of diabetes mostly mimicking human disease; 3) describe the pathology, diagnosis, and therapeutic options for diabetic patients; 4) integrate information from current basic and clinical research studies and apply them to the diagnosis; and 5) identify novel molecular targets for therapeutic intervention in CKD.
