Hot off the Press: What's New in Hypertension?

November 07, 2019 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: 202, Walter E. Washington Convention Center

Session Description

Additional reports continue to appear with new evaluations of the SPRINT data. Publications on the effects of the lower BP target on dementia and cognitive functioning are soon to be published. The SPRINT Alzheimer’s, Seniors, and Kidney Study (SPRINT ASK) looked at rates of all-cause dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and kidney function 1 year after closure of the randomized intervention. A recent trial of the timing of medication dose directly questions prior assumptions about chronotherapy. The KDIGO hypertension guideline is expected soon.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Summarize dementia and cognitive impairment data from SPRINT-MIND including consideration of treatment side effects and adverse events
  • Describe outcomes for the long-term trajectory of eGFR and urinary albumin excretion in SPRINT
  • Compare outcomes for hypertension control by medication dose timing
  • Discuss the updated KDIGO Guideline on Blood Pressure in CKD

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Hypertension and CVD

Moderators

  • Joachim H. Ix, MD, FASN
  • Elaine Ku, MD, FASN
