Computational Image Analysis: Shaping the Future of Nephropathology

November 07, 2019 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: 201, Walter E. Washington Convention Center

Session Description

It is critical to identify robust algorithms and pipelines to maximize understanding from the wealth of available medical data and derive solutions for precision medicine. Experts discuss improvements on understanding of normal and pathologic micro-anatomical features and feature extraction from whole slide images from renal biopsies using artificial intelligence (AI) schemes. They also discuss how AI can be partnered with humans in a feedback loop to streamline pathology workflows and for data fusion with data domains for categorization, diagnosis, and treatment of renal diseases.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the principles of digital annotation and the role of quantitative pathology in precision medicine
  • Discuss the principles of deep learning, machine learning, and AI from the perspective of a medical professional
  • Discuss a variety of machine-human interactive protocols
  • Explain the integrative power of multimodal datasets in describing renal pathological states and predict outcome
  • Describe how the use of integrated pathology can change clinical prctice

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Pathology
  • Glomerular Diseases
