New Developments in Vitamin D Metabolism and Action

October 23, 2020 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand

Session Description

Vitamin D has a significant role in calcium homeostasis and metabolism. Its discovery was due to a search for the dietary substance lacking in children with rickets. Vitamin D supplements are given to treat or to prevent osteomalacia and rickets. This session provides an update on different aspects of vitamin D metabolism, mechanism of action, and clinical application.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe genetic variants affecting the metabolism of calcium and vitamin D
  • Discuss the latest mechanisms in vitamin D metabolism
  • Identify treatment possibilities for restoring disturbed kidney function
  • Summarize insights about markers of mineral metabolism

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Bone and Mineral Metabolism
  • Cell and Transport Physiology
