Tissue Is the Issue: Protocol Renal Biopsies Reveal Disease Mechanisms in DKD and Nondiabetic CKD

October 23, 2020 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: Simulive

Session Description

Protocol renal biopsy-driven discovery of renal disease mechanisms is an important aspect of delineating mechanistic pathways in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Such discoveries resulted from a longitudinal study of a Pima Indian community and the Kidney Precision Medicine Project (KPMP). This session presents historical perspectives, protocol optimization, and recent advances in this area, including data mining and systems integration of multiscalar data sets.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Provide a historical perspective of protocol renal biopsy experience in the Pima Indian cohort
  • Discuss the KPMP experience with protocol biopsies
  • Discuss structural and molecular data sets
  • Identify data integration and mining strategies for multiscalar data
