CKD-MBD in the Era of Personalized Medicine: Is a New Paradigm Coming? Including the Jack W. Coburn, MD, Endowed Lectureship
October 23, 2020 | 02:30 PM - 04:30 PM
Location: Live-Streamed
Session Description
Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is a complex disease resulting in increased fractures and mortality. Management should focus on therapy tailored to the underlying bone disease (i.e., ROD-type). However, in most cases, it is not possible to obtain an invasive bone biopsy. This session reviews state-of-the art personalized medicine advancements that may lead to noninvasive approaches for diagnosing, managing, and treating ROD and CKD-associated fractures.
ASN gratefully acknowledges Amgen for support of the Jack W. Coburn, MD, Endowed Lectureship.
Learning Objective(s)
- Describe the current limitations of noninvasive assessments of bone disease in patients with CKD
- Discuss novel approaches that may lead to novel diagnostic strategies
- Explain the importance of bone compartments on ROD pathophysiology
- Identify practical approaches to diagnosing and managing bone disease in the current era
Learning Pathway(s)
- Bone and Mineral Metabolism
- Chronic Kidney Disease
Moderators
- Charles Ginsberg, MD
- Fabrice Mac-Way, MD

Dr Rosa M. A. Moysés graduated from the University of São Paulo in Brazil. She specialized in Nephrology at the same service and later started working in the CKD-MBD group of this Institution, position she still occupies.
Her main fields of interest are bone disease, as well as vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease. Her group is one of the most internationally recognized with more than 4,000 bone biopsies performed in CKD patients.
She has several publications in peer review journals of clinical and experimental studies in this field.
