Moving the Needle: Updated Evidence on Metabolic Acidosis

October 23, 2020 | 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM

Location: Simulive

Session Description

Despite awareness of metabolic acidosis as a complication of CKD, there is still much unknown about the effect of metabolic acidosis and the best approach to managing it. New evidence is emerging on the impact of metabolic acidosis on cardiovascular disease, the most common cause of death in patients with CKD. Additional evidence supports the use of oral alkali in patients with CKD. Combined, these topics demonstrate how new evidence moves the field forward by transforming our understanding of and approach to metabolic acidosis, as well as highlighting ongoing knowledge gaps as opportunities for additional research to improve clinical outcomes.

Support is provided by an educational grant from Tricida, Inc.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe how metabolic acidosis in CKD may contribute to cardiovascular disease
