Basic/Clinical Science Session

From Biomarkers to Bioactivity: Metabolites and Metabolomes in Kidney Diseases

November 04, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

The metabolome, the entity of small molecules and chemicals involved in metabolism, has traditionally been studied to identify biomarkers in the diagnosis and prediction of disease. However, metabolomics has been redefined as a way to discover active drivers of biological processes. In the kidneys, metabolic interventions have been shown to have potential for ameliorating kidney diseases. The session highlights recent innovations and functional insights into metabolism and metabolomics in kidney diseases.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the connection between microbial metabolites and the development of hypertension
  • Describe novel technologies that help map kidney function
  • Discuss the transformation metabolomics data into tailored metabolic intervention in diseases such as hypertension
