Kidney Week

Basic/Clinical Science Session

It's All About the Collagen

November 07, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

The development of genetically characterized databases (e.g., UK Biobank) have heralded a new type of epidemiologic study, where gene variants can be correlated with phenotypic data in the general population. Interestingly, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of kidney-relevant phenotypes have implicated collagen in the pathogenesis of many kidney diseases. This session explores the latest research in this area.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the results of recent GWAS studies
  • Describe the biology of type IV collagen
  • Outline the complexities of the kidney matrisome through proteomic studies
