OGs of Big Data: USRDS and DOPPS

November 04, 2021 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

Registries and observational data offer a holistic view of the impact of kidney diseases both in the United States and internationally. In this session, data from the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) and Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) showcase the power of registries and observational data to bring color to current disparity issues in CKD and dialysis patients. Discussions include understanding the trends in hemodialysis mortality associated with practice changes, home dialysis trends and outcomes, as well as opportunities to coordinate care and improve health outcomes and patient experiences in the transition to kidney failure.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the major factors underlying racial and ethnic disparities in outcomes associated with CKD in the United States
  • Discuss why hemodialysis mortality has declined over many years, and why the rate has recently flattened, and highlight practice changes to improve outcomes further
  • Explain the application of data about process and clinical outcomes associated with home dialysis in United States to construct a local plan for growth
  • Identify opportunities to coordinate care and improve clinical outcomes and experiences for patients transitioning to kidney failure, including modality choice, conservative care, dialysis initiation, and the early dialysis period

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Dialysis
