Kidney Week

Clinical Practice Session

Immunotherapy and the Kidneys

November 04, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

Immunotherapy has been associated with AKI, specifically acute interstitial nephritis, and in the last two years, several studies have highlighted its effect on the glomerulus as well. In addition, there have been several advances in the use of these agents in dialysis and transplant patients. Furthermore, electrolyte disorders associated with these agents are well-described. This session highlights various kidney-related effects of immunotherapy.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe recent reports about AKI associated with immunotherapy (immune checkpoint inhibitors and chimeric antigen receptor T cell [CAR-T] therapy)
  • Identify glomerular diseases associated with immunotherapy
  • Identify various common electrolyte disorders associated with immunotherapy (mainly hyponatremia and hypercalcemia)
  • Discuss the use of immunotherapy for transplant patients and patients with ESKD

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Acute Kidney Injury
  • Chronic Kidney Disease
