Novel Mechanisms of Organ Cross-Talk in CKD-MBD

November 04, 2021 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

CKD-MBD is a disorder that affects multiple organ systems and involves a complex network of organ cross-talk. Recent studies have further elucidated how organs communicate to regulate mineral homeostasis and the novel role of CKD-MBD abnormalities to a broad range of organ pathology. This session summarizes novel findings regarding how CKD-MBD contributes to CKD-related comorbidities.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Identify recent advancements in our understanding of bone-kidney communication in CKD-MBD
  • Discuss how mineral metabolism derangements may contribute to end-organ damage in the kidney
  • Describe recent advancements in our understanding of how the intestine contributes to mineral homeostasis
  • Discuss CKD-related phenotypes that suggest an accelerated aging phenotype in CKD
