Management of Traditional Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Patients with ESKD

November 04, 2021 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

CVD is an important contributor to morbidity and mortality in ESKD, but evidence supporting the management of CVD risk factors in ESKD is scarce. The complexity of ESKD care requiring management of multiple comorbidities can result in polypharmacy and adverse drug reactions. Therefore, it is crucial to understand which therapies targeting CVD risk factors are evidence-based and indicated in ESKD. This session reviews the latest developments in goals and treatment approaches for hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in patients with ESKD.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the importance of the accurate assessment of CVD risk factors, including BP, glycemia, and lipid levels in patients with ESKD
  • Discuss ESKD-specific factors that affect the treatment of traditional CVD risk factors
  • Report the latest recommendations for treatment and attained goals in the management of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in patients with ESKD
