Basic/Clinical Science Session

New Horizons in Genomic Sequencing for Patients with Kidney Diseases

November 05, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

Genomic sequencing has been incorporated into clinical nephrology practice as part of the diagnostic workup for patients with genetic kidney disease. This session discusses how the field of renal genetics is expanding, examining new diagnostic techniques and patient cohorts who will benefit in the future from genomic sequencing.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Identify when genomic sequencing should be performed before a kidney biopsy
  • Define how population-level analysis can inform individual patient risk
  • Examine how existing clinical data can identify patients at risk of genetic kidney disease
  • Describe how urine-derived epithelial cells can be used to diagnose genetic kidney disease

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Genetic Diseases of the Kidneys

  • Ali G. Gharavi, MD
  • Peter C. Harris, PhD
