Impact of Metabolic Surgery on Diabetic Kidney Disease

November 06, 2021 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

This session focuses on the emerging concept of using metabolic surgery as an intervention for the treatment of patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The speakers address the underlying premise for the approach, the clinical and preclinical mechanistic evidence base, and key considerations for its safe and efficacious deployment.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Discuss the direct and indirect effects of obesity as a modifiable risk factor for the development and progression of DKD
  • Describe the impact of metabolic surgery on structural, ultrastructural, and molecular markers of DKD in preclinical models
  • Describe the clinical outcomes of metabolic surgery in patients with DKD
  • Outline the management of surgical risks in patients with DKD

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Diabetes and Metabolism
