Don't Forget About Me: Implementing Post-Transplant Education for Kidney Recipients

November 06, 2021 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On-Demand, Virtual Only

Session Description

Kidney transplantation is the ultimate modality for patients with ESRD. Dialysis patients receive continuous kidney health education; however, kidney transplant patients only receive one pretransplant orientation or education session. After receiving a transplant, patients have limited resources to help them understand their overall kidney health, including medication management, various medical challenges that can arise during transplant, and mental health. This session discusses the educational needs of patients after their kidney transplant and offers best practices for addressing them.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Discuss why this topic is important to transplant recipients from a patient perspective
  • Enumerate possible consequences that patients may endure when transplant education is ineffective
  • Describe the transplant education gaps for patients
  • Outline best practices for incorporating effective transplant education

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Transplantation/Immunology
