This session reviews newer uses of established therapies, including new filter technologies being investigated in acute settings and during the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Discuss the potential uses of different RRT modalities and molecular adsorbent recirculating system (MARS) in patients with cirrhosis
  • Describe the mechanisms of extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal and the role of the nephrologist
  • Explain the rationale for the use of newer extracorporeal blood purification membranes during acute illness
  • Outline safe and effective peritoneal dialysis strategies that have been implemented during recent disease outbreaks

Learning Pathway(s)
