Translational Session

Role of the Cyst Microenvironment in the Origins and Progression of ADPKD

November 05, 2021 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Location: Live-Stream, Virtual Only

Session Description

Our understanding of the pathophysiology of ADPKD is rapidly evolving regarding both the causes of cyst development and factors contributing to kidney function decline in patients with this disorder. This session provides an update on recent scientific observations about how alterations within the cyst microenvironment influence PKD progression.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Discuss current knowledge of the biological functions of polycystins
  • Explain how cyst epithelial cells communicate with the microenvironment
  • Describe how changes in the cyst microenvironment influence cyst growth and fibrosis

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Genetic Diseases of the Kidneys
  • Chronic Kidney Disease

Moderators

  • Maureen M. Barr, PhD
  • Whitney Besse, MD
