Mineralocorticoid Receptors: From Bedside to Bench and Back

November 05, 2021 | 12:45 PM - 01:45 PM

Location: Simulive, Virtual Only

Session Description

The recent outcomes of the FIDELIO-DKD study are receiving attention from the kidney community, which is interested in slowing the progression of diabetic kidney disease. This symposium first provides an overview of the efficacy and safety of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) in different stages of DKD. It also provides mechanistic insights into the hemodynamic and metabolic pathways modulated by mineralocorticoid receptors (MR) in the kidneys, which aids in interpretation of the observed clinical outcomes.

Support is provided by an educational grant from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Describe the safety and efficacy of MRAs in DKD compared with the standard of care
  • Discuss the hemodynamic effects of MRAs
  • Explain the metabolic effects of MRAs

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Diabetes and Metabolism

Moderator

  • Michelle L. Gumz, PhD
