Update on the Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Treatment of CKD-Associated Pruritus

November 06, 2021 | 12:45 PM - 01:45 PM

Location: Simulive, Virtual Only

Session Description

The highly prevalent condition CKD-associated pruritus (CKD-aP), also known as uremic pruritus, is associated with poor clinical outcomes and has a negative effect on health-related quality of life. The pathogenesis of CKD-aP is not well understood but is likely due to multiple factors. Despite the high prevalence of CKD-aP and its negative impact on health outcomes, therapeutic options have been limited.

This symposium is an update on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of CKD-aP and also provides insight into recent developments in treatments.

Support is provided by an educational grant from Cara Therapeutics, Inc. and Vifor Pharma, Inc.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Define the prevalence of and risk factors for CKD-aP
  • Identify factors potentially responsible for the pathogenesis of CKD-aP
  • Discuss recent developments in the treatment CKD-aP
