Advances in Diagnosis and Management of Alport Syndrome

November 06, 2021 | 12:45 PM - 01:45 PM

Location: Simulive, Virtual Only

Session Description

Genomic sequencing has broadened the phenotype of Alport syndrome. This symposium outlines the genotype-phenotype correlation between homozygous, heterozygous, and hemizygous variants in COL4A3, COL4A4, and COL4A5, exploring the clinical utility of genomic sequencing. Presenters outline methods for identifying at-risk individuals for cascade testing. Discussions include therapeutic trials and the impact of early diagnosis on the options for managing Alport syndrome.

Support is provided by an educational grant from Reata Pharmaceuticals.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Identify patients with potential Alport syndrome and their relatives who could benefit from genomic sequencing
  • Discuss therapeutic trials in Alport syndrome
  • Describe the impact of early diagnosis on management options

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Genetic Diseases of the Kidneys
