Advances in Research Conference: Regenerative Medicine and Bioartificial Kidneys [In-Person]
Course Description
ESKD is a global health problem for which therapeutic options carry high morbidity and mortality. This program describes the current state of research for innovative therapies to treat kidney failure, including regenerative efforts such as cell-based and organoid-based therapies and the development of various types of artificial kidneys.
Course Objective(s)
Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to: 1) describe the underlying pathways that support and enhance kidney regeneration after kidney injury and novel targets with high potential for kidney regeneration; 2) discuss the current knowledge, clinical rationale, and technical barriers for developing novel therapies from kidney organoids; 3) describe the state of research and the technical barriers for the development of wearable and implantable renal replacement strategies; and 4) explain patient perspectives and their role in developing novel renal replacement strategies.
