Translational Session
Thrifty Genes, Nephron Endowment, and Loss: AKI Lessons from Development, Pediatrics, and Aging, Including the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship
November 05, 2022 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: W308, Orange County Convention Center‚ West Building
Session Description
This session explores the kidneys over the continuum of the life span as a lens through which to consider factors that inform susceptibility to AKI. Particular emphasis is placed on comparisons in kidney development, the kidneys in children, and the kidneys in aged individuals.
ASN gratefully acknowledges Monarch Pharmaceuticals for support of the Barry M. Brenner, MD, Endowed Lectureship.
Learning Objective(s)
- Identify pathways that affect in utero kidney development and nephron endowment
- Discuss how pediatric nephrologists think about AKI pathogenesis and outcomes
- Describe novel patient-centered approaches to model AKI susceptibility and outcomes
- Specify underlying factors that contribute to the effect of aging on AKI susceptibility
